Introduction

Merchant couplings are designed for use in situations with pressures of 150 psi or less and are not suitable for high-pressure environments.

These couplings are available in different styles, including full and half merchant couplings. Full merchant couplings are used for stronger connections, while half merchant couplings provide a threaded outlet for welding onto flat surfaces, including tanks. Merchant couplings can have either straight or tapered threads, with tapered threads providing a better seal because of their design.
